Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 4 April 2010 – Socialize, UAE’s first social media agency and training house, has joined forces with DIAC (Dubai International Academic City) and DKV (Dubai Knowledge Village), members of TECOM Investments, to host ‘Social Media Magic’, a special youth seminar to provide Social Media training for its students.

The training session lasting 90 minutes on April 5th aims to educate
students on the resources social media offers to help them kickstart
their careers.

“For a generation that takes the Internet as a ‘given’, it is important
for them to understand how to use this resource to make it work for
them,” said Akanksha Goel, Chief Enthusiast at Socialize. “Most of these
students are limiting themselves to Facebook for social activities and
we hope to show them other options and alternatives that could broaden
their horizons.”

Dr. Ayoub Kazim, Executive Director, DKV and DIAC said: “For the
digitally adept youngsters, social media is the new medium that offers
tremendous opportunities even beyond networking. Educators need to
acknowledge this trend and incorporate technology as an innovative
platform to augment students’ learning experience. The TECOM Investments
knowledge clusters recognise this factor and we support this workshop
which we consider a step in the right direction.”

Students will be shown how to not only have fun online but at the same
time search for employment opportunities, position themselves for
success and start building their digital presence. The course will help
them discover their personal brand, creating an impactful online
presence and understanding the common pitfalls and how to avoid them.

The event will also launch the ‘Social Media Superstar’ Competition.
Students are being invited to send in their nominations via
http://socialize.wufoo.com/forms/social-media-superhero. In addition,
there will be on-the-spot prizes and incentives to encourage interaction
and hands-on understanding of social media and personal branding.

The event will be held in the Dubai Knowledge Village auditorium and
open to all students.
