NEC IT Platform Solutions, a division of NEC Corporation, today announces that its range of fault-tolerant servers supports the Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor. At a time when continuous availability in virtual environments has become essential, the Express5800/R320 servers represent perfect platforms for virtualising critical applications.

With the explosion of the Internet market and online transactions, fault-tolerant systems play a vital role in ensuring the continuous operation of a company’s critical applications. NEC Express5800/ft fault-tolerant servers are designed to host critical business applications in a wide variety of environments. They provide native redundancy for all the hardware subsystems, including processors and memory, ruling out system downtime due to hardware faults and maximising service continuity. The service rate achieved is 99.999%, or less than 5 minutes downtime per year. Using NEC Express5800/ft servers to implement a virtualised Microsoft Hyper-V architecture significantly reduces the risk of failure when compared with non-redundant servers. In addition, the hardware fault tolerance generates considerable improvement in performance compared to software solutions for fault tolerance.

The new range of NEC/Express5800 R320 servers supports Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and the Hyper-V 2.0 virtualisation platform to create virtualised environments with high availability. NEC fault-tolerant servers can now take full advantage of the virtualisation features offered by Hyper-V 2.0. In addition, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise is supplied with four Windows Server licences for virtual machines, which represents further scope for savings. Incorporating the latest generation of Intel Xeon 5600 processors, the performance of the NEC Express5800/R320b-M4 is 1.4 times better than that of previous models. The new fault-tolerant models therefore represent the ideal platform for server consolidation.

To meet users’ needs with regard to prevention and responsiveness, NEC is offering two high added-value service packages:

UltraCare FT Service Advantage: guarantees a high level of availability for FT solutions (telephone support, delivering modules, access to a dedicated web portal, access to hardware and software support, automatic remote alerts, proactive remote monitoring, etc.).

UltraCare FT Service Premium: Personalised very high added-value service, providing optimum availability to handle critical activities around the clock (priority escalation to after-sales service, emergency intervention, direct access to NEC’s FT Expertise Centre, 24/7 telephone support, etc.).

NEC’s fault tolerance offer, including the server and associated services, is undoubtedly the best high availability solution with optimised operating costs, thanks to an environment that is easy to use, administer and maintain.

“NEC fault-tolerant servers represent platforms with unparalleled high availability, ensuring continuity of service for critical applications. We are glad to be able to offer our customers these new models that are compatible with Microsoft Hyper-V. They complete our Express5800/R320 range, which is now able to host the main virtualisation environments,” says Thierry MARULIER, Business Development Manager NEC IT Platform Solutions.

NEC Express5800/R320 servers are also certified for VMware vSphere 4 and Red Hat Linux 5.4 environments.
