Advanced option slot player ensures flexibility, simplicity and future-proofing for digital signage

Middle East, 28 January, 2014 – NEC Display Solutions Europe has taken the wraps off the OPS Digital Signage Player, a full-featured device compatible with all NEC large format displays – as well as PX Series and PH Series installation projectors – featuring the OPS Slot.

Based on the Open Pluggable Specification, the new OPS Digital Signage Player brings high performance, easy connectivity and maximum flexibility to the digital signage market.

The OPS Digital Signage Player is capable of full 1080p high-definition playback thanks to its quad core ARM® Cortex®-A7 processor and integrated eight logic core graphics processor. Furthermore, as an open platform product, it can run Android or Linux based software with compatible third party apps on top. Storage can be easily added through an SD card or USB stick – up to 128 GB – while connectivity can be wired or wireless.

“This new approach will bring a host of new opportunities in the digital signage market by providing a completely flexible and open platform supporting even browser-based solutions,” said Thomas Walter, Product Manager Public Display Solutions at NEC Display Solutions Europe. “Therefore we can deliver the lowest TCO while providing industrial grade components and the latest technology and innovations. We are already receiving tremendous positive feedback from our close partners who have been testing this new player for us.”

Through this approach there is no need to stow external equipment, while overcoming the limitations of built in System on Chip (SoC) solutions. Instead, the NEC Option Board concept provides a versatile upgrade path for the future as it can be easily exchanged between compatible devices and upgraded or replaced as needed. Furthermore, with no cables required due to internal connection for power, video, audio and control, the option board fits neatly within the display or projector profile for a more elegant installation.

This combination provides high flexibility and allows customer to run exactly the installation they require, without the limitations of locked down solutions. As such, it is ideally suited for just about every digital signage scenario including retail, restaurants, digital out of home, as well as aviation and transportation.

The new OPS Digital Signage Player will be available across EMEA from February 2014 and will be showcased at ISE 2014 in Amsterdam from 4 – 6 February 2014 – visit us in Hall 4, Stand 4-R24.
