Middle East, 27 March 2012: The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Retailer Marketing Initiative of the Year Award. Entries for this award, which is open to all ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailers operating in the Middle East, will be judged by a VIP Jury on a number of criteria including innovation, creativity, sales performance, impact on margin, footfall created and overall market impact. The deadline for submitting application packs for the Retailer Marketing Initiative of the Year Award is April 26th 2012.

The overall winner will be announced during the ‘MERA: 2012 Awards’ Gala Dinner, which takes place on May16th 2012 in Fujairah, UAE, in conjunction with DISTREE Middle East – the region’s leading annual event for region’s ICT and CE retail channel. To enter for this award, retailers must submit an online application outlining a single marketing initiative and the business benefits it delivered.

“The entries for the Retailer Marketing Initiative of the Year Award have been of an exceptionally high standard in recent years,” commented Faoruk Hemraj, CEO at DISTREE Events, organisers of the ‘MERA: 2012 Awards’. “This reflects the rapid evolution of the retail channel in the region as retailers embrace multichannel models, improve their understanding of customers, innovate in terms of promotions and look to differentiate themselves in a competitive market.”

A VIP Jury will select the five most impressive entries for official nominations and these will be announced and highlighted throughout the DISTREE Middle East event before an overall winner is announced on May 16th.

“This award recognises excellence in the Middle East retail channel and we invite all those eligible to enter to do so as soon as possible,” added Hemraj. “We want to make everyone aware of the skills and marketing ingenuity that is driving the growth and development of the regional retail channel.”

Last year’s winner of the Retailer Marketing Initiative of the Year Award was Kuwait’s Alghanim, which operates the X-cite retail chain, for its ‘Retailment’ concept featuring innovative consumer promotions including tickets for events including an exclusive Nancy Ajram concert. Carrefour, Jacky’s, Khoury Home and Sharaf DG also received official nominations last year.
