Dubai Street Food Awards, an annual celebration of street food in the United Arab Emirates as part of the Dubai Food Festival, honoured some of the street food vendors the first time in 2018 at Dubai Food Festival’svibrant Etisalat Beach Canteen. After careful deliberation, winners have been selected in seven categories including Best sandwich, Best Wrap, Best Main Dish, Best Dessert, Best Original Drink, Best New Street Food Concept and Best Food Truck.

  • Best Wrap: Roti Rollers for “Up all Night to get Plucky”
  • Best Sandwich: “Hooked on Baos” from Hooked
  • Best Main Course: Maiz Tacos for El Dorado Fish Tacos
  • Best Dessert: Raw Vegan Gluten & Sugar Free Chocolate Berry Tart from Spill The Bean
  • Best New Concept: Maiz Tacos
  • Best Food Truck: Gobai

Voted by a jury of leading food bloggers, media and food entrepreneurs, the organisers: Catchme Events and Market Buzz, that this new award will encourage more street food vendors to offer more variations and be versatile.

The judges included Ishita Saha and Debbie Rogers, owners of FoodeMag Dxb, Arva and Farida Ahmed, co-founders of Frying Pan Adventures; an online food magazine; Sally Prosser, blogger at My Custard Pie, a leading food blog, Will Rankin, blogger at Middle East Living and finally, representing the organisers, Sherif Abaza, co-founder of Catchme Events, and Mita Srinivasan, director and self-confessed foodie at Market Buzz International.
