Dubai, UAE; 31 October 2011: Illuminations, a Dubai-based holistic company and hypnotherapy centre, has announced new dates for Terry Anne’s Laughter workshop. The workshop will now be held on Saturday 10 December 2011 from 9am at the Illuminations Centre in Jumeirah Lake Towers. The one-day laughter therapy workshop will cost 600AED per person, including course material, and refreshments at the Illuminations Therapy Centre.

Graça Ward, Organiser & Hypnotherapist at Illuminations, said, “When emotions are released or tension in the body comes out it can feel quite intense, followed by huge relief. Sometimes people suddenly remember things which can be unpleasant or very sad when they are doing the breathing exercises. The workshop is about laughing but it’s still therapy. The part where they laugh with joy can only happen after the sadness and worries come out. Laughter therapy focuses quite a lot on learning breathing techniques which flood the brain with oxygen, releasing endorphins in huge amounts, which can make people laugh and cry at the same time even.

For some people it puts them in a better mood and they become more tolerant at home or at the office. For others it can help them recall huge trauma which they had completely repressed, for example being abused, or being in an accident before they were even born (when the mother was pregnant). For other people, they only carry the sadness of an event that happened to someone else, for example a mother who feels terribly guilty that her daughter was hurt, or someone who feels responsible for someone else getting fired from a good job. All those emotions stay with us for a long time and affect our moods and our behaviour and eventually they can affect our health, making us feel depressed or exhausted, angry etc. This can even result in headaches, stiff neck, sore back, high blood pressure or heart attack etc etc.

With laughter therapy, many emotional situations can be resolved and released so that illness can be cured or simply prevented. It makes people feel so much better. Some people attend because they had a horrible childhood, others attend because they feel stressed at work, some go because their parents died and they feel bad they never felt sad about it, while others go because they can’t stop crying that they got divorced. Right at the beginning people get to know each other and trust is established so that everyone feels safe in the group.

Terry Anne, resident inYork,England, trained at The Proudfoot School of Clinical Hypnosis and Psychotherapy inScarborough, including Hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming (N.L.P.) The session will include laughter meditation, abilities to create individual styles, finishing with laughter yoga.
