Company also leads in the $10K-$24.9K, $25K-$49.9K and $50K-$99.9K enterprise and high end price bands for the year

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 25, 2009 ― Fortinet® – a market-leading network security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions– today announced that new IDC research data confirms that the company was ranked No. 1 in worldwide UTM factory revenue for 2008, fueled by significant large enterprise, MSSP and carrier adoption of its high-end FortiGate™ network security appliances. This data makes Fortinet the global factory revenue leader for three consecutive years.. For 2008, Fortinet also held its sales lead in the enterprise and high end price bands  — two significant segments of focus for the company.

Data in the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker, March 2009, confirmed:
•    Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for all of 2008 and Q4 2008
•    Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in the high-end ($50K-$99.9K) price band for both factory revenue and units shipped for all of 2008 and Q4 2008
•    Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in the two enterprise UTM price band segments ($10K-$24.9K and $25K-$49.9K) for both factory revenue and units shipped for all of 2008 and Q4 2008
•    Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Western Europe and Asia Pacific for all of 2008 and Q4 2008
“Faced with an increasingly complex threat landscape and shrinking IT budgets, enterprises of all sizes are re-evaluating their network security postures and replacing ineffective security point solutions with UTM solutions,” said Ken Xie, Fortinet founder, president and CEO.  “Driving Fortinet’s UTM growth is enterprise and high-end customer adoption and realization of the defined and measurable security effectiveness, value and ROI achieved with our FortiGate appliances – which are backed by real-time security updates and hold more certifications and awards than any competitive solution.”

According to IDC, UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device. To be included in this category, as opposed to other Threat Management appliance segments, UTM appliances must contain the ability to perform network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, and gateway antivirus. All of the capabilities need not be utilized, but the functions must exist inherently in the appliance. In addition to the mandatory applications, UTM appliances may also host other security or networking features.
