Saffron Media, Publisher of Filmfare Middle East, has teamed with Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the region, to launch The Emirates NBD Classics – a series of monthly concerts by some of the leading musicians of Indian classical music. The concerts will aim to preserve and propagate the rich cultural heritage of Indian classical music, traditionally patronized by royalty and the elite in society.

Hindustani classical music is an integral part of Indian Classical Music and has been sustained over generations by royal patronage. The gradual disappearance of this form of support has led to a dilution of musical traditions and values
“While the digital age has allowed a lot of musicians to make a name for itself, the very basics of our cultural heritage is becoming sidelined and ignored,” said Amit Pateria, MD, Saffron Media. “This is our way of nurturing our musical heritage and traditions and we are very pleased that Emirates NBD and Nissan Middle East are supporting this community initiative. Traditions are vulnerable to the passage of time and can become a part of history if not nurtured for posterity.”
Starting with the first event in The Emirates NBD Classics on 21 September 2012 with tabla maestro, Bickram Ghosh, each concert will aim to provide a platform to introduce some of the best in Indian classical music to not just aficionados but budding musicians across the country. Special classical music workshops with the performing musicians are being arranged before each concert to allow budding musicians access to first hand experience with the maestros.
Both the concerts and the workshops are to be held at DUCTAC and are free by invitation only.
