Dubai, UAE, 24 October 2010: The UAE’s integrated telecom service provider, du, signed an agreement with FVC, the Value Added Distributor for Polycom in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), to launch the Middle East’s first VNOC (video network operations centre), offering Managed Video Services to businesses around the UAE. The agreement includes providing du’s customers with a unified service that includes bandwidth, device management, commercial flexibility (CAPEX or OPEX), bridging services and Polycom video conferencing systems available in a pay-as-you-go model. The VNOC service is powered by Polycom UC Intelligent Core infrastructure, and expertise from FVC in successfully delivering video conferencing and VNOC services.

“This is an exciting announcement for us and we are very pleased to be partnering with a visionary company like du,” said K.S. Parag, MD at FVC. “As one of the main proponents of rich media as a business tool, we are seeing digital and visual communications go mainstream. It is no longer a question of whether your business should use telepresence and video conferencing but when you should use it to not only save time and money but also reduce your carbon footprint.”

du’s managed services are aimed at helping enhance the value of IT business investments through improved operational efficiency and service levels. The services allow businesses to maintain as much or as little control over their IT operations and infrastructure as they desire, while they focus on their core business activities.

“du always strives to be at the forefront of innovation, and this partnership with FVC and Polycom to provide a Managed Video Service is another example of the company bringing cutting-edge solutions to the UAE. This service offers the next-generation open video collaboration technology with flexible commercial models, enabling our enterprise customers to compete globally as well as locally more effectively and economically,” said Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer of du. “With this service, our customers can finally video conference over IP which is a huge step forward for businesses across the region.”

“This is an important initiative for customers who wish to communicate globally via video conferencing. We are glad that FVC cooperates with du, a highly innovative and forward-thinking telecom company, to provide the UAE with state-of-the-art video conferencing and VNOC services, meaning enterprises can focus on their core business competencies and communicate with the world efficiently and cost-effectively,” said Alan Wiedmer, VP Emerging Markets at Polycom.

“The ultimate objective of this initiative is to make visual communications as pervasive and ubiquitous as making a phone call. The customer has a single point of contact at du for device management, bridging services and end point purchase in an opex model,” said Guru Prasad, GM Alliances and MSP at FVC.
