Alcatel-Lucent has ranked third for revenue in EMEA for managed LAN switches in a recent Infonetics Research Quarterly Worldwide, Regional, China, and Japan Market Size, Share and Forecasts: 4Q/10  report. The Infonetics report shows that in EMEA, Alcatel-Lucent managed LAN market share based on revenue, grew quarter over quarter throughout 2010, and grew by more than 10 percent worldwide in the fourth quarter 2010 vs. third quarter 2010.

Alcatel-Lucent LAN switching solutions have seen nearly a 20 percent revenue growth and a 27 percent growth in port shipment just in EMEA for the past year. These results follow two opportunities taking place in the market. The first is a change in enterprises who are seeking alternate sources for network infrastructure build outs, a strategy recently highlighted by Gartner in their report “Debunking the Myth of the Single-Vendor Network”. The other is new products coming to market, such as the launch of Alcatel-Lucent’s flagship high performance, highly scalable core 10 gigabit Ethernet LAN chassis, the Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 10K. A key offer in Alcatel-Lucent’s Application Fluent Network vision, the OmniSwitch 10K enables a high-quality end-user experience for delivery of real-time applications along with reduced complexity for IT and network managers by being aware of applications on the network and adjusting the switches based on the context of the application being delivered.

“The refresh in Alcatel-Lucent’s switching portfolio is already paying off, especially in EMEA, where Alcatel-Lucent is now the number three vendor of managed Enterprise Ethernet switches on a revenue basis,” said Matthias Machowinski, Enterprise Networks analyst with Infonetics Research.

“Many enterprises are looking to simplify and reduce the layers in their network, and are seeking a dual vendor source for network refresh projects. In EMEA, we are coming across more opportunities to fill that need, and results are pushing us ahead in the market,” said Tom Eggemeier, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Sales, Europe, Middle East and Africa for Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise. “Alcatel-Lucent’s goal is to become the preferred alternate vendor in the region, and our consistent growth in revenue is proving why we are positioned to do so.”
