Alcatel-Lucent will explain how the transportation industry can use the lightRadio Cube to support train or vehicle to ground communications.  Please come by our stand 8B150 to learn about other dynamic communications that we will be demonstrated to enhance the passenger experience including on board interactive kiosks providing multimodal and multimedia information, integrated communication & management solutions for control rooms, on Board CCTV & Video analytics solutions and more.

Today, a growing number of users are accessing rich content and interactive applications over their mobile devices. This dramatic growth will continue – simultaneously increasing operating expenses and energy consumption.
The new Alcatel-Lucent lightRadio product family provides simpler, lighter and greener broadband wireless networks for Urban transport operators. It provides better performances allowing transport operators to improve the operational security and the passenger experience. lightRadio is a flexible architecture that distributes intelligence throughout the network so that it can dynamically expand to meet growing demands.

This is accomplished by creating a new architecture where the base station, typically located at the base of each cell tower, is broken into its component elements and distributed through the network or ‘carrier cloud.’  Additionally the various cell tower antennas are combined and shrunk into a single powerful, Bell Labs-pioneered multi frequency, multi standard (2G, 3G, LTE) device that can be mounted on poles, sides of rail and bus stations or anywhere else there is power and a broadband connection.  The ‘beam forming option’ requires eight of these cubes stacked together to perform a functionality that can point a beam in a particular direction to provide coverage indoors.  Leveraging Bell Labs innovations in active antenna technology and advanced CPRI compression and partnerships with Freescale and HP, Alcatel-Lucent is first in the industry to announce products in this space.

Alcatel-Lucent provides a comprehensive suite of services that ensure successful deployments of lightRadio. Services include strategic planning, consulting, end-to-end network design and optimization, OSS/BSS integration and managed services. We deliver globally with local presence in 130 countries in addition to four Delivery Centers strategically located in Poland, Romania, Bangalore and United States.

At the occasion of the 59th UITP World Congress and Exhibition in Dubai, UITP has decided to award excellence under the slogan “PTx2” (or “public transport times two”). Alcatel-Lucent through its lightRadio Portfolio has been recognized by UITP which aims to reward stakeholders who have defined plans and have launched or are about to launch ambitious projects or initiatives to grow public transport market share by putting into practice one or several of the strategic areas identified by UITP.
